This week business leaders will contest the Government’s decision to build a third runway at Heathrow Airport. The Tories said that a letter which the group plans to send to Gordon Brown complaining about the scheme “explodes the myth” that the business community is united in support of the plan. Among those signing the letter is Justin King, chief executive of the supermarket chain Sainsbury’s, Steve Holliday of the National Grid and Charles Dunstone, chief executive of Carphone Warehouse. Theresa Villiers, shadow transport secretary, comments: “Labour’s misleading claim that all business backs a third runway has been blown out of the water. These are serious and very senior figures in the business world and they are telling Gordon Brown he has got it wrong on Heathrow.”
