Heaven in the UK
We put the following question to users of Twitter today: “What’s your idea of heaven when travelling in the UK?”. Ignoring the only negative response from @Madamejojo’s which was “travelling out of it!”, here are just some of the suggestions that came back…
- My idea of heaven when travelling in the UK is to have someone else DRIVE! Love doing UK by auto and seeing as much as possible! (@kimijtoo)
- The countryside in Kent. Orchards and gardens, light, landscape, architecture. Rapturous. (@asiantees)
- single track roads, smell of honeysuckle coming in through open windows, spotting hares and red kites as you drive along (@HoptonHouseBnB)
- bumping into the extraordinary that I never knew existed – The Quiraing on Skye, Mining Landscape in Cornwall/West Devon (@picturetheuk)
- a martini made by Antonio while relaxing at the Egerton House lounge! HEAVEN in the UK! (@seattleSuze)
- Fisn & chips with lashings of vinegar and onion sauce, Marmite, Branston pickle and Cider – Thats my UK heaven (@Gtahotels)
- long sweeping and EMPTY roads! Thinking St Ives to St Just via Zennor, Machynlleth along Dovey estuary to Aberdovey… (@markgj)
- Walker’s Hill above the Vale of Pewsey. (@Bluejay12345)
- Sitting at the top of Gold Hill in Shaftesbury and the Salt Cellear, drinking Tea, eating chocolate cake. Reading the Sunday Times (@jonathanwthomas)
- proper bacon and a pint of beer – things we miss in France (@letastingroom)
So… what’s YOUR idea of heaven when travelling in the UK? Please tell us by posting a comment.

The glorious gardens especially in Kent and the
Stone House Sussex for dinner.
My heaven when travelling the UK was last week: perfect weather (yes we had sunshine in London), relaxing in St. James Park, Fish & Chips with a pint Guinness and the best was that we’d get tickets for ‘A Doll’s House’.That was the best birthday in my life. And now I’m sitting here in Germany and want to go back…*sniff*
