Britain got its first taste of high speed rail travel today. Hurtling through Kent countryside at 142mph was the new Javelin train. A trip from Ashford to Charing Cross would normally take 1 hour 17 minutes, but this new train is capable for getting to St. Pancras in just 37 minutes. There will be 29 Javelin trains connecting Kent to London by the end of the year at a great convenience to commuters and with only a modest addition to existing fares.
