Visitors to Chester Zoo got a surprise they hadn’t bargained for today and were asked to evacuate the attraction because around 30 chimpanzees had escaped their enclosure. They were asked to leave the 110-acre site as a precautionary measure and to allow zookeepers to gather them back in which they achieved by 4pm. A statement on the zoo’s website reads:
“In the interests of public safety Chester Zoo was evacuated today, Sunday 5th July as a precautionary measure. This decision was taken due to an escape of chimpanzees from Chimp Island into a keeper area, which was not accessible to the public. Chester Zoo apologises for the inconvenience and disappointment caused to our many guests and will provide a refund or free future visit to our guests. Please ring 01244 380482 or 01244 380387 after 9am on Monday 6th to apply for a refund/free future visit. Further details will be put on this website on Monday 6th July.”
