A warden at Blair Drummond Safari Park found a £1m hoard of Iron Age jewellery just days after taking delivery of a new metal detector. Just seven paces in to his new-found hobby, David Booth unearthed four 2,300-year-old torcs made of pure gold, a hoard which The Times is describing as the most significant discovery of Iron Age metalwork in Scotland.

The world’s shortest flight
A local ferry service form Papa Westray to Westray in the Orkney Islands was suspended recently, meaning that six teenage children had no way of getting to their secondary school, Westray Junior High. Thankfully, Loganair came to the rescue and are taking the children to and from school on what is believed to be the world’s shortest flight. The flight takes an average time of just 96 seconds and covers a little over a mile. The route is popular with visitors to the islands but is also an important lifeline to residents.

A rather public announcement on the London Underground
Commuters at West Ham station on the London Underground got more than they bargained for recently, and reportedly heard a couple making love over the tannoy rather than the usual announcements of rush hour delays. Transport for London are insisting that there was interference on the station’s public address system, but passengers are sounding far from convinced. One such passenger, Laura O’Connor, claimed “It was definitely a couple doing it there and then. He was grunting loudly and she sounded like she was having a great time. The driver must have heard it, too, as the doors stayed open longer than usual.”
