The first UK rail fare to weigh in at over £1,000

£1000Yes, you read that right.  The recent increase in rail fares has resulted in the first rail fare to top £1,000.  The turn-up-and-go, first-class return from Newquay in Cornwall to the Kyle of Lochalsh in the Scottish Highlands weighs in at a whopping £1,002.  Research that identified the fare also revealed that other turn-up-and go return fares have risen 100% in price since the mid-1990s.

Tell us your views on the cost of rail travel in the UK.  Is it prohibitively expensive?  Has the service in your opinion shown any signs of improvement in conjunction with the price rises?
