London Olympics ticket prices announced

The ticket prices for the 2012 London Olympics have finally been announced, although won’t go on sale until March 2011.

Tickets for the Olympics are going to start from around £20 with certain over 65 and under 16 concessions, although each event will be priced individually as documented on the official PDF file.

The prices are still a little confusing as the PDF doesn’t give details of what you get for each pricing bracket – presumably better quality seating. An example is “Athletics” with tickets for the “Super Final” which apparently comes after the final, ranging from £50 to £750. Hopefully it should all become clear when the tickets finally go on sale.

The one that will no doubt generate the most interest is the opening ceremony and tickets for that cost anything from £20 to an eye watering £2012 (I wonder if this was deliberately priced). Maybe the closing ceremony is better value at a mere £1500 for a top ticket.

To register your interest in one or more tickets, you need to complete an Olympics registration form here.

Footnote: One other hurdle you might need to overcome is that you can only use Visa cards to purchase tickets and other official Olympics payments due to sponsorship contracts. We can assume no one told Lloyds TSB who are also a very major sponsor as they changed all their customer credit cards from Visa to Mastercard about 18 months ago.

I just worked out – if 198 people buy the top priced opening ceremony tickets the organising committee will have just about gotten back the price of the logo for the games (assuming no credit card processing fees).
