Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to open in 2013

Royal sources and the British Olympic Association have announced that the Olympic Park will be renamed Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in 2013.

The current Olympic Park is set to be the central focus for the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics with both the opening and closing ceremonies held there, amongst other events. The main Olympic stadium will be right at the heart of the park, along with a nearby aquatics centre, basketball arena, velopark and hockey centre.

Once both sets of events have taken place, the park will be given the new name Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in honour of her majesty who will be celebrating her Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
