LUMIERE, Durham

LUMIERE, the four-day light festival that brightened Durham’s centre two years ago, returns from 17th-20th November 2011 to sprinkle a little winter magic over the city once more. In November 2009, LUMIERE transformed the city into a nocturnal wonderland for four nights. An estimated 75,000 people flocked into town to see the many projections, installations and performances all made of light. This year dozens of works from internationally renowned artists, emerging local artists and local communities will create another breathtaking series of artworks transforming the landmarks, streets, river and bridges of the city. The programme is being kept under wraps for a little longer but you can expect to see around 35 different artworks all over the city ranging from large-scale projections, to neons, to installations using the latest LEDs.
