Cheese rolling in Gloucestershire: see it to believe it!
Discover the cultural scene that really breathes life into Britain, captured here in the form of the cheese rolling at Cooper’s Hill, Gloucestershire – a tradition that’s lasted for more than two hundred years.
Put simply, a cheese – Double Gloucester, to be precise – is rolled down a very steep hill and people run (or rather tumble) in its pursuit. This spectacular event takes place in May each year, attracts many participants and many more spectators, all curious to see who will be first to the cheese.
