Join in for free

Look out for free concerts, exhibitions, outdoor spectaculars and more across the UK. From watching the dazzling Lakes Alive to improving your moves at Big Dance 2012, there is plenty to choose from.

Sounds of the summer

Plug into their line-up of exciting music events. There are 160,000 free tickets up for grabs for BT River of Music. Plus, there’s a chance to see top European acts in Eurostar’s Traction and don’t miss the Urban Classic mash-up at Waltham Forest.

Festival of smiles

There’s plenty to have a laugh at, too – enjoy Tim Minchin performing at the Eden Project and help celebrate 111 years of comedy at the Hackney Empire. You can also follow the comedy barge as it sails from London to Edinburgh – on the riverbank and online!

Go outdoors

Experience the great outdoors with the open-air events. Watch out for NVA’s Speed of Light in Edinburgh and outdoor art installations at Hadrian’s Wall, the Giant’s Causeway, Stonehenge and coastal locations around the UK for Peace Camp.

Something for the kids

There are loads of events for kids and families! From Dr Who adventure The Crash of the Elysium to big-screen animation and storytelling events, kids across the UK will love getting involved in the Festival.
