Day 12 of the Olympic Torch relay – Chester to Stoke-On-Trent

Today is day 12 of 70 for the London 2012 Olympic torch relay and will see the torch travel from Chester at 6:56am to Stoke-on-Trent at 6:46pm, passing through Wrexham, Rhostyllen, Acrefair, Trevor, Oswestry, Pant, Llanymynech, Welshpool, Shrewsbury, Cressage, Much Wenlock, Benthall, Broseley, Ironbridge, Telford, Newport, Gnosall, Haughton, Stafford and Shelton along the way.

At around 1pm, the Olympic torch will reach the spiritual home of the modern Olympics (Much Wenlock) where, 162 years ago, the flame first flickered.  The day’s events will culminate in an evening celebration at Hanley Park in Stoke, which will include a performance from Britain’s Got Talent runners-up, Twist and Pulse.

Among the torchbearers today will be 18 year old Sarah Thomas, a young carer and tireless campaigner for the MS Society, and a 55 year old Oswestry postman and member of Oswestry Olympians.  Olympic gold medallist Imran Sherwani has been chosen to carry the flame in Stoke-on-Trent’s Hanley Park where he will set light to a giant cauldron.

He will carry the flame into Hanley Park, and light a giant cauldron during an evening of celebrations in the city.
