Day 29 of the Olympic Torch relay – Gateshead to Durham
Today is day 29 of 70 for the London 2012 Olympic torch relay and will see the torch travel from Gateshead at 7:15am to Durham at 5:59pm, passing through South Shields, Whitburn, Sunderland, Low Fell & Chowdene, Blaydon, Prudhoe, Stocksfield, Hexham, Riding Mill, Consett, Moorside, Castleside, Tow Law, Esh and Langley Park along the way.
Olympic track legends Haile Gebrselassie and Brendan Foster will both be carrying the torch in South Shields, with a hand-over between the two taking place at the Great North Run finish line at around 8.20am.
The route will also include a stop by the Angel of the North in Gateshead at midday before heading west to Hexham, and then finishing the day with a celebration in Durham, where BBC presenter Matt Baker will carry the flame.
