Day 39 of the Olympic Torch relay – Sheffield to Cleethorpes
Today is day 39 of 70 for the London 2012 Olympic torch relay and will see the torch travel from Sheffield at 7:40am to Cleethorpes at 6:12pm, passing through Rotherham, Dalton, Thrybergh, Conisbrough, Warmsworth, Doncaster, Armthorpe, Dunsville, Hatfield, Scunthorpe, Brigg, Wrawby, Immingham and Grimsby along the way.
The day will start from Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium, home of Rotherham United Football Club. Once in Rotherham, the torch will call at the Magna Science and Adventure Centre. Later, it will be taken on a train journey courtesy of the Cleethorpes Light Railway, before finishing the day’s 77-mile route at Meridian Park.
One of today’s 130 torchbearers is 28-year-old James Needham, an England wheelchair rugby gold medallist who teaches wheelchair skills to newly injured people. He will carry the torch in Doncaster.
