Day 44 of the Olympic Torch relay – Birmingham to Coventry
Today is day 44 of 70 for the London 2012 Olympic torch relay and will see the torch travel from Birmingham at 6:03am to Coventry at 6:11pm, passing through Solihull, Earlswood, Redditch, Astwood Bank, Alcester, Evesham, Wickhamford, Broadway, Chipping Campden, Newbold on Stour, Alderminster, Stratford Upon Avon, Warwick, Royal Leamington Spa and Kenilworth along the way.
As well as visiting Shakespeare Country, the torch will call at Warwick Castle and the ruins of Kenilworth Castle. In total, there will be 157 torchbearers, including Karl Hinett, who had 37% burns when his tank was petrol bombed in Iraq, and who ran 52 marathons last year to raise funds for Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s burns unit in Birmingham.
An evening celebration will take place in Coventry with a performance from the dance troupe, Morning Parade, as well as the dance act Twist and Pulse.
