Day 49 of the Olympic Torch relay – Ipswich to Chelmsford

Today is day 49 of 70 for the London 2012 Olympic torch relay and will see the torch travel from Ipswich at 6:42am to Chelmsford at 6:37pm, passing through Colchester, Hatfield Peverel, Heybridge, Maldon, Rayleigh, Southend-on-Sea, Hadleigh, Basildon, Grays, Herongate and Brentwood along the way.

After it’s river adventures arriving in Ipswich yesterday, the torch is tacking an initially straight route down from Ipswich at around 6.35am at Mansion House and finally leaving the city around 7.03am, en-route towards Colchester.

If all goes to plan, the torch will then take a zig-zag pattern, through Haybridge and Maldon on its way into Rayleigh at 10.20am and then onwards into Southend around 10.50am. In Southend-on-Sea, Olympic Swimmer Mark Foster will be the first to carry the torch through the town.

It appears the torch will be taking the slow-boat from Southend, perhaps anticipating the massive turnout as it will arrive just down the road in Hadleigh at around 1.50pm. From there it’ll take several sharp turns via Basildon, Grays (the most southerly point for today) and back up to Herongate, Brentwood and finishing on the streets of Chelmsford sometime after 6.30pm.

One of the big stopoff points today will be at Hadleigh Farm which is the home to the Olympic mountain bike course. The torch should arrive here around 2.30pm if all goes to plan.
