Day 56 of the Olympic Torch relay – Portland Bill to Bournemouth

Today is day 56 of 70 for the London 2012 Olympic torch relay and will see the torch travel from Portland Bill at 7:10am to Bournemouth at 6:02pm, passing through Southwell, Weston, Easton, Portland, Fortuneswell, Weymouth, Preston, Osmington, Winfrith Newburgh, Wool, Corfe Castle, Swanage, Stoborough, Wareham, Sandford, Lytchett Minster, Upton, Hamworthy, Poole, Ashley Cross, Poole, Branksome and Wallisdown along the way.

Hopefully there will be sunshine to light up the torch relay route today along the south coast from Portland Bill, one of the most southerly points in Britain, to the seaside town of Bournemouth as the torch heads eastwards.

To ensure the torch is seen by as many people as possible, the relay will be taking quite long detours this time especially on the section from Wool down to Swanage and then back up to Wareham.

One of the early stopping points will be Weymouth around 8.30am where the Olympic sailing events are all taking place.

Following the Jurassic Coast, one of the most famous places to see the torch will be Durdle Door – an outcrop of rock with the famous hole in the middle, which remarkably seems to defy wind, rain and storms.

Finally the torch will arrive in Bournemouth where there will be two-and-a-half hours of events taking place.
