The Opening Ceremony – good news for UK tourism as a whole?
Being the capital, London always seems to get the lion’s share of attention when it comes to UK tourism and this year has been no different – first with the Diamond Jubilee and now with the Olympics. (And last year, of course, the capital enjoyed the limelight with the Royal Wedding.)
But hopefully the one billion people around the world who have been watching the Olympic Ceremony on their TV screens will see that there is much more to the UK than just London.
Danny Boyle’s spectacular show titled “Isles of Wonder” has represented England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It has given viewers into insights of life beyond London – our history, our culture and our traditions.
Viewers inspired to visit the UK as a result of watching the London 2012 Olympics must take this opportunity to visit not only London, but -more importantly – to also explore further afield, and hopefully the Opening Ceremony will have gone some way to offering that inspiration.
If you’re now considering a visit to the UK… the message therefore is to not just visit London. Explore beyond and you’ll be richly rewarded.
