Residents and visitors to North East England can get fit and save money this Easter in a giant outdoors gym. Durham’s Outdoor and Active Week takes place from 13th to 19th April 2009 and features 12 free and subsidised events to encourage people to explore the county’s green spaces and beauty spots.
The week is organised by County Durham Tourism Partnership and includes free guided walks in beauty spots including Durham’s Heritage Coast and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, an assault course at Auckland Castle and free mountain bike hire for visitors to Hamsterley Forest in Teesdale.
The events are aimed at people of all ages and alongside traditional foot and pedal power, visitors can try new sports including outdoors tennis, croquet, rowing and cricket taster sessions at Durham County Cricket Club’s Riverside stadium.
