UK tourism during the economic downturn

According to Travelmole “…VisitBritain has been asked to draw up a priority list of key areas on which government could take effective action to support tourism during the economic downturn.”  This follows a visit by Prime Minister Gordon Brown to a national tourism summit last week.

What do you think would help tourism in the UK the most during the current financial climate?

Logically I would think not much. For domestic tourism I should think people having less money would mean more would take holidays at home rather than abroad. There’s not much the government can do for the disposable income of foreigners wishing to travel here, although I suppose they could sort out the exchange rate.
