Premier Inn unveils plans for Britain’s first floating hotel. During 2009, Britain’s largest budget hotel chain, Premier Inn plans to build a ‘Floatel’ in the picturesque Hartlepool Marina. The first time a budget hotel has been purpose built on water, the new hotel will offer the same quality and value as the rest of the Premier Inn hotels but with an unrivalled waterfront view. There is a growing need for more hotel accommodation in the area of the marina but limited space on which to build. The ‘Floatel’ will be linked to an existing Premier Inn by a pedestrian ramp. With 54 large bedrooms offering modern ensuite bathrooms, TV and internet access and coffee making facilities, the new ‘Floatel’ will provide a comfortable and contemporary place to stay. There is no need to worry about sea sickness because the hotel’s unique design has been carefully thought out meaning it will float vertically with the tide, while the horizontal movement will be restricted by sleeved piles driven into the marina.
