The Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) has released a league table declaring The British Museum as the most visited tourist attraction in 2008.  The museum successfully fought off competition from the Tate Modern and the National Gallery.  The British Museum is a national museum for the whole of the UK and features a spectacular collection of seven million objects from all over the world which represent the rich history of human cultures.  It frequently holds interesting exhibitions and currently features exhibitions such as Shah Abbas:  The Remaking of Iran, Babylon: Myth and Reality and Treasures from Shanghai: Ancient Chinese and Bronzes and Jades.  The museum is open 10.00-17.00 and entrance is free of charge.
