£220 million to be spent on Blackpool

Plans for a £220 million facelift for Blackpool have been unveiled.  The plans include new offices, a supermarket, hotels, shops, cafes and restaurants.  The new development will be positioned on a 10 hectare site near Blackpool North Station and Talbot Road.  Work will begin in 2011 and bring with it hundreds of construction jobs and a much needed boost economy.  The taxpayers will be paying around £40 million to the plans and £220 million will come from private investment.  The chairman of ReBlackpool which is the local regeneration body commented “This project will transform a neglected and under utilised area of the town into a welcoming family-friendly getaway, encouraging more people to visit, providing better services for local people and encouraging inward investment.”
