Directed by Joanna Hogg, the new British film Archipelago is set on the Scilly Island of Tresco, and just like the islands, the film has received glowing reviews from all the critics.
Guardian film critic Peter Bradshaw described it as “…subtle, mysterious, murky and utterly distinctive – 5 stars” which is much how Joanna Hogg herself sees the islands which formed so much of her childhood holidays.
The island seemed to respond to the film schedule by showing its darker moodier sides with rain and storms, but then the next minute the bright sunshine for which the islands are so famed. To help first time visitors to the islands, Joanna along with the Guardian has produced an interactive guide to all the Scilly Isles.
Getting to the Scilly Isles is a lot easier than it used to be with both a ferry crossing and the more recommended Scilly Isles helicopter crossing from British International. My mother recommends the latter for anyone who suffers from the movement of the seas.
