A London design duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby have been asked to create the design for the London Olympic torch which will be carried over 70 days to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in 2012.
The designers are best known for creating inovative furniture projects since opening their studio in 1996. Their studio is in Shoreditch, London, only 4 miles from the Olympic Stadium. They will also be involved in creating a design for the London Paralympic torch.
Design Council chief executive David Kester said: “Arguably this is one of the most visible design briefs in the world – literally billions of eyes will be on the Olympic Flame in 2012.”
