
Steam trains remain almost as popular today as they were many years ago. They appeal to all ages groups and Thomas the Tank Engine ensure the attraction from an early age. Hundreds of volunteer’s accross Britain keep more than 100 heritage steam railways running. Providing an excellent day out here are some of the best steam journeys in the country:
Isle of Mull – Enjoy a ride on little engines pulling small carriages and providing stunning views of Glencoe and Ben Cruachan.
North Norfolk – Visit in the Spring time to see beautiful bluebells, primroses and gorse and take a 10 mile round trip between Sheringham and Georgian Holt.
Bo’ness and Kinneil – Travel through the picturesque woods to Birkhill from the Firth of Forth. Enjoy guided tours and fossil hunting too.
Keighley and Worth Valley – This was the location of the famous story of The Railway Children and steps back in time at Haworth Station, close to Bronte parsonage.
