As we know, the traditional British pub has suffered greatly in recent years, particularly with the advent of the smoking ban. You only have to look at the share price of Punch Taverns to get an insight into how badly they’ve been affected, and apparently pubs in the UK been closing at a rate approaching 40 a week. If that were to be sustained, Britain would be out of pubs by June 2037… and that’s despite there being little change in overall alcohol consumption. Cheap alcohol in supermarkets and the recession probably serve only to add to the British pub’s woes. So what now for the traditional pub?
