Tourists in London got quite a surprise this morning and woke up to find large expanses of the capital underwater. Overnight rain resulted in the Thames bursting its banks and brought about extensive flooding. Despite the weather, the city’s tourist attractions are open as usual and people are able to get about by public, double-decker boats.
Two Australian visitors – Joe King and his partner Faye Kerr – said they would not let the weather ruin their plans and would work out alternative ways to get about the city. “We knew that Britain was renowned for its April showers,” said Joe, “but we didn’t expect this”.
Hardware stores throughout the city have sold out of mops as council workers, local businessmen and volunteers are working hard on the clear-up operation. They hope to have completed the task by midday.
