For those who’ve visited the capital, it might be hard to believe there is actually peace and tranquillity available in the middle of London, but a personal favourite retreat is Hyde Park. I only discovered this purely by accident having visited the Lancaster Gate area, but within a couple of minutes you realise all the traffic noise has just disappeared.
The Guardian has produced what it describes as a 5000 step walk around the Serpentine lake which sits within the park roughly between Lancaster Gate underground station and Knightsbridge (home of Harrods).
Features of the walk include the famous statue of Peter Pan as donated by author JM Barrie in 1912, the Lido cafe and the Princess Diana memorial fountain.
Full details of the walk on the Guardian web site.
