As far as impressive ancient buildings go, Lincoln Cathedral has to be amongst the finest in the country. Dating from the 10th Century, the cathedral sets proudly on top of a hill above the city and can be seen from 25 miles around.
As well as being a place of worship since the 10th Century, Lincoln Cathedral has also played important roles in other aspects of life including the holding of several earth parliaments in the 10-sided Chapter House.
Many regard this as one of the finest architectural buildings in the country with it’s 14th century stone carvings on the choir screen, 14th century carved misericords and wonderful medieval stained glass.
Floor tours take place generally twice daily (except Sunday), and other specialist tours are available including tours looking at the roof and upper structures of the Cathedral. Due to access the specialist tours need to be pre-booked and have limited numbers.
