VisitBritain guide to welcoming visitors to the Olympics

VisitBritain has produced a guide for Londoners on exactly how to greet visitors from outside these shores during the 2012 London Olympics.

Tips include not winking at someone from Hong Kong, being careful how you pour wine for someone from Argentina and making absolutely sure you don’t put your thumb through your fingers & point at someone from South Africa.

One does wonder exactly how Londoners have ever managed to keep any of the 30 million overseas visitors arriving there each year, before this guide was produced.

The information was compiled from various VisitBritain offices around the world, although according to several sources the idea that “Arabs are easily offended” might indeed offend them and is rather misleading. Perhaps don’t take everything the guide says as gospel and maybe just being nice to visitors could give the best impression…?

See the Guardian web site for a few more cultural requirements.
