York’s largest ever archeological dig at Hungate

Close to the centre of York is the The Hungate excavation – the biggest ever archaeological dig in the city. The purpose of the dig is to take the city’s history back through the last 2000 years, and best of all the archaeologists are inviting you to see the dig as it happens up close.

The site has been setup with special attention to allowing the public as close to the archaeology as possible and incorporates areas where visitors can get hands on with many of the finds. Hungate is wheelchair friendly so no one is excluded from getting up close and personal with York’s fascinating history.

Hungate archaeological dig runs until at least 2011.
