London 2012: Cricket to make way for archery at Lord’s

London 2012 organisers have been given the go-ahead to use the historic Lord’s cricket ground for archery at the London 2012 Olympics. The ground will be temporarily transformed into a 5,000 seater Olympic archery venue in two years’ time. The archers will fire their arrows in front of the pavilion towards the space-age media centre that is one of London’s most recognisable structures.

In staging this event, Lord’s joins other iconic venues that are hosting Olympic sports, including the All England Club (tennis), Greenwich Park (equestrian) and Horse Guard’s Parade (beach volleyball).
