10 best wedding venues in the UK

If you’re looking for someone special to get married, here are a few suggestions from spectacular views to celebrity venues we have them all.

1) The Westminster Register Office might not sound like the most glamorous location, but it is one of the most popular wedding venues in London. The offices have four beautiful rooms and it has the celebrity credentials including hosting the weddings of Paul McCartney to Linda Eastman, Liam Gallagher to Patsy Kensit and Ringo Starr to Barbara Bach.

2) The Chelsea Registry Office is famous for having even more celebrity wedding ceremonies than the Westminster office, with names from Judy Garland to Patrick Vieira having tied the knot at here. The luxurious rooms can hold parties of up to 40 guests.

3) BA London Eye is one of the more unusual locations to get married, but it’s quite possible to be pronounced man and wife as you reach the top. The ceremonies are carried out in a private capsule decked out in flowers with up to 20 guests accommodated.

4) The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh offers stunning views towards Edinburgh Castle. This iconic hotel is situated right in the romantic heart of Edinburgh, and offers the full Scottish package with a Highland piper and rose petals on the couples bed.

There’s also plenty of champagne including a champagne breakfast. Ideally suited to larger wedding parties.

5) The Dorchester Hotel in London one of the best known luxury hotels in the world, currently celebrating it’s 75th anniversary.

Couples can celebrate their wedding in one of twelve private dining rooms accommodating from five to over a thousand guests with a whole range of classic and modern styles. For the wedding night, the Dorchester offers some of the most luxurious accommodation in London.

6) Blenheim Palace is one of the most treasured buildings in the country with many historic connections, being home to the 11th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.

With over 2,100 acres of parkland, the palace offers the use of the elegant Orangery for the wedding ceremony with it’s own private entrance, and evening receptions in the magnificent State Apartments.

7) The Guildhall in Windsor is another location with both spectacular views and important historic and royal connections. With views across to Windsor Castle, it was here that Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall made their vows, along with Sir Elton John and David Furnish in their civil partnership.

The Guildhall, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, can accommodation between 30 and 120 guests with royal portraits on the walls and chandeliers on loan from the Queen hanging from the ceilings. For residents of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead there are even discounts available for the hall.

8. Castle Rushen on the Isle of Man is the oldest wedding venue on this list. Dating from the 13th Century, the castle is one of the best preserved medieval buildings in the UK. The castle and grounds offer an atmospheric backdrop like no other, with room for up to 130 guests and exclusive hire available for around £600 making it remarkably good value too.

9) Kensington Roof Gardens offer one of the most unusual locations for your wedding, but at the same time also provide some of the best views of London. Set over 100 feet up, the gardens feature the walled Tudor gardens, a formal cloistered Spanish garden with a court of fountains and the English woodland with a stream and ducks!

There are over 1 1/2 acres of gardens way up in the London skyline giving one of the most majestic venues around, right in the heart of London. If that wasn’t enough, there are even four resident flamingos.

10) The Queen’s Stand at Epsom Downs Racecourse is ideal for those looking for a wedding with a sporting theme. There are five rooms in the stand licensed for civil ceremonies with room for 250 guests during the civil or partnership ceremony, and around 400 for the reception.

Skibo Castle is another alternative for your wedding and was chosen by Madonna and Guy Richie. The only small issues might be that you need to be a member of The Carnegie Club and exclusive hire will cost around £34,000 per night!

There are other venues not included above – a few of which you can find in the Independent newspaper guide to wedding venues.

Great selection! Although I am Canadian, I wish I could get married at any of these places, but I heard it’s a bit of a challenge for non-Brits to get hitched in the UK. Is that right?

There are a number of complications if you are a not a UK national and you’re marrying someone who is also not a UK national.

You’ll need what’s known as a UK Marriage Visit Visa which essentially entitles you both to come across, get married and stay for a limited amount of time. I think after that you might need a “Certificate of Approval” but not entirely sure.

This web site I just found should help explain it a bit:

Good luck getting the forms and such sorted – it should be simpler from Canada but red tape doesn’t always work logically.
