As expensive as this might have been, the Tate modern turbine hall is currently filled with 100 million individually made porcelain sunflower seeds and you’re allowed to walk on them.
Whether this is the work of a crazed genius or just someone who wanted to make really expensive art I’m not sure, but the Tate Modern turbine hall is currently filled with over 100 million of the fake seeds, all of which were made and painted by 1600 people in Jingdezhen, China over a period of 2 years. The total installation weighs around 150 tonnes and is around 10 to 20cm deep.
Unlike a lot of expensive art, the public are encouraged to pick up and even walk across the porcelain seeds which makes it especially attractive for kids.
Maybe this is art for the people from the peoples republic.
