Fountain of lights brighten up Archway tube station

To bring a little light to the Winter nights in London, artist David Batchelor has installed 3000 colourful lights above the Archway tube station entrance.

It looks like a modern art version of a Christmas tree, but the new installation called Big Rock Candy Fountain is intended as a fountain of lights to brighten up the entrance to this traditional and normally rather drab London Tube Station in Islington, North London.

The lights are designed to sparkle and look like a fountain, crossed with fairground lights to make it stand out. Being located high up, the lights will be viewable from the surrounding streets and especially the local buses.

The lights were turned on by Madness’ singer Suggs and the lights will shine right through to March 27 2011.
