It might not always seem like it, but the Royal Society has affected all our lives by bringing together some of the greatest scientific minds the world has ever known.
The society started on the 30th November 1660 with a lecture by Christopher Wren who is probably most famous for St. Paul’s Cathedral, but who’s lecture promoted the creation of one of the most important scientific gatherings in the world.
Following this, the society has always been at the forefront of science and development bringing to the public the ideas we take for granted today including gravity, evolution, the electron and DNA. Without the Royal Society, many of these ideas may never have entered the public consciousness.
The society isn’t just about great minds gathering and talking, much of it’s work is about letting the public see the latest ideas which it does with free lectures all year round. To help spread the ideas, the society is also partnering with establishments all over the country to bring free lectures and events to the entire nation – list of events.
If you have an interest in science and technology, then why not see if there’s an event going on near you.
