As 5th November approaches, the British Hedgehog Preservation Society are asking people to make sure they know not to light bonfire piles without checking for hedgehogs and other wildlife. Ideally re-site the pile on the day, but if not possible check carefully using blunt poles and torches, then light the fire from one side only, thus allowing any animals that haven’t been spotted a route of escape. If you wish to circulate this message, the BHPS have produced a poster to raise awareness.
