New CaniX event takes place in Grizedale, South Cumbria

There are many strange forms of marathons and endurance racing, but one of the latest brings together people and their dogs in what has become known as the Canix event.

The idea is competitors run a 5km course alongside their dogs presumably keeping both pretty fit, although it has to be assumed that those dogs with longer legs might have a significant advantage. Grizedale Forest in the Lake District was the latest location to see this sport which proved very popular with competitors coming from as far afield as Scotland and London.

In the Grizedale trials, the adult race was won in just 43 minutes and the junior race in 11 minutes 9 seconds. 125 people and their dogs joined in the race, although some going a little quicker than others. Funds raised from the event go to Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.
