You know how lots of people immediately decide to go on a diet after Christmas, and health spas claim that mud is a good detox agent….well why not combine this and help a charity too?
On the 28th Dec 2010 in Maldon, Essex, around 200 people annually take part in the Maldon Mud Race which is pretty much as its name suggests, running through lots of glorious mud while raising money for charity.
To ensure there is plenty of mud, the race takes part across the estuary of the River Blackwater which ensures safe passage, even if you end up having to crawl across it (running is optional). Fancy dress is also allowed, although remember that costumes can get very heavy when wet!
Other suggestions include taping footware or it’ll get sucked off in the mud, and not even attempting to remove the mud with even the best washing powders – perhaps there’s a sponsorship challenge there?
If you want to get all down and mucky in a good cause in front of about 2000 spectators, then head over to the Maldon Mud Race official web site and sign up.
The main charities this year are: Essex Air Ambulance, Little Haven Children’s Hospice, Helen Rollason Cancer Charity and Rotary Charities.
