Special offer – fish manicure arrives in London

Beauty spa’s always seem to be coming out with slightly bizarre new treatments to “beautify” ourselves, but now it’s even stranger with a “fish manicure”.

When I first read about this, I assumed they used fish oils in some very vague “Omega 3 oil makes your skin glow” kindof way, but no, these fish manicures use live fish to give your hands a manicure.

The treatment which is apparently popular in Turkey, has now arrived for the first time in London at Aqua Sheko in Soho, London, as the new big thing in beautifying spa type treatments and by the sounds of things, it’s becoming quite popular.

All you have to do is dip your hands into a tank of Garra Rufa fish (aka. Doctor Fish) and let them do their magic for 30 minutes, after which the idea is your skin will come out glowing and rejuvenated without the need for expensive creams and lotions.

For those a little concerned about the type of fish and its effects – they look like large tadpoles and don’t have teeth which means they simply give a slight tingling effect. In their native Turkey they are also used as a treatment for eczema type conditions.

In terms of fish welfare, this is what the fish do naturally so they seem quite happy, or at least there have been no protests from a Garra Rufa fish union yet.

If you’re in London and you’d like to try this, Living Social are offering the treatment for just £12 – a 56% saving on the normal treatments. Click here for more details.

They are mostly used for Pedicures as can be seen in the photograph, you put your feet in the tank.

Think that’s what they’ve generally used them for and there is a Leicestershire spa doing that too, but this is the first time (we can find) where they’ve been used for manicures in the UK.
