Take an Underground train on the Isle of Wight

There isn’t some secret project whereby London has been connected to the Isle of Wight via a new channel tunnel, but you can now take a London underground train on the Isle of Wight.

The trains in use between Ryde Pier to Shanklin are from around 1938, so rather than the rather horrible plastic interiors of the modern underground “Tube” trains, you get wooden windows and opening top windows. The big differences are that you get a sea view rather than brick walls and a bit more room rather than being crammed in like sardines.

Ideal for all Londoners who don’t want to completely escape the city, but would prefer a more pleasant underground train experience.
