New Lake District fell walking iPhone app launched

A new app for smartphones has been launched by Cumbria Tourist Board to show walkers & cyclists the best routes around the Lake District.

The app which works with iPhone & iPad, Android phones and Symbian smartphones, is an extended version of the Viewranger application and gives details of 23 walking routes and 9 cycling routes all around the English Lake District.

Created with the help of Cumbria Tourist Board, the app also includes details of accommodation, pubs and cafes using the phone’s on-board GPS unit to find the nearest establishments at any given point.

The app for the iPhones costs from £2.39, and all versions are available to download from the Viewranger Cumbria web site, along with a full list of available Lake District walks and cycle routes.

That sounds like a great idea but my only concern is – I can rarely get any network coverage in the Lake District :(

Not exactly great for network coverage, but I guess with the app it’s all installed or downloaded before you head out – assuming you can get coverage to download it first off. :)
