Bosses of the London Underground have announced it won’t run 24 hours during the Olympics as previously suggested, but will run until 2am.
The original idea was that parts of the Tube would be able to run 24 hours a day during the two weeks of the Olympics to accommodate the numbers of people visiting the city.
However for unspecified reasons, most likely a combination of money and maintainance, Transport for London have compromised and will be running some services from the stadium in Stratford, as well as around Central London up to 2am during the Olympics.
The lines mostly affected by the change will be The Central, District, Hammersmith & City and Jubilee lines, which on Sundays will also start 45 minutes earlier at 6am.
How well the London Underground trains cope with the expected 6.5 million passengers a day is to be seen, but upgrades taking place currently should hopefully improve things for passengers in time.
As we reported last week, there are quite a number of reasons why a 24 hour tube is a bad idea.
