The National Trust seem to have developed a sense of humour and produced a guide to rude place names on places it owns.
The guide tries to save the blushes of those wanting to find some of the strangest and often slightly innuendo-led place names which are part of the National Trust properties list.
With places such as The Nostrils, Scrubby Bottoms and Booby’s Bay, it might be no surprise that those locations haven’t been previously heavily visited except perhaps by bloggers. However the “Silly name walks” as the NT likes to call them, should soon be getting an increased footfall considering the publicity these new guides are generating.
We’re not too sure how well these walks will go down with “traditional” National Trust memberships, but if the NT are trying to regain their mojo then this would seem like a good step in the right direction.
Naturally the most likely effect of this is lots of people posting photos of themselves on Facebook standing next to the appropriate signs.
The list of National Trust rude place names:
- Booby’s Bay in Cornwall
- Windy Gap by Leith Hill, Surrey
- Great Wood at Walla Crag, Cumbria
- Slapper’s Rock in Cornwall
- Kiss me Arse Steps in Cornwall
- Scratch Arse Ware in Dorset
- Cock-Up Bridge at Wicken Fen, Cambridgeshire
- Pisser Clough, Hardcastle Crags, Yorkshire
- The Nostrils on the Isle of Wight
- Scrubby Bottoms in Pembrokeshire
There are of course plenty of other walk types listed on the National Trust walks pages.
