Radio 1 Big Weekend feat. Lady Gaga in Carlisle sees 500,000 ticket requests

There’s always a bit of a running joke that no one is really interested in Cumbria except for maybe an annual visit to the Lake District – that is until Lady Gaga is booked to perform in Carlisle, then we become very popular.

That’s exactly what happened this week after Radio 1 announced their Big Weekend was going to take place on Carlisle Airfield and amongst a myriad of stars performing was going to be someone called Lady Gaga, was she in the Spice Girls…? ;-)

For two days on the 14th and 15th May, Carlisle Airport will be rocking to the likes of Lady Gaga, Foo Fighters, Jessie J, Bruno Mars, the Black Eyed Peas, Plan B and Tinie Tempah etc. Don’t worry, there is very little chance of anyone getting mowed down by a Boeing 747 or much else for that matter as the airport is pretty much used for training flights and a few RAF stop-offs for breakfast.

Ticket requests have exceeded all expectations – so much so that Cumbria actually made the BBC news with those 500,000 people trying to get tickets for 40,000 places. We’re not exactly sure if Carlisle has ever seen 40,000 people all at once, so there might be a few confused looking folks but don’t worry, they’ll adapt pretty quick.

Tickets for the event are on sale until April 7th and priority is being given initially to people in South Scotland, Carlisle and north Cumbria but there should still be plenty left for the rest of the country.

More details on the Big Weekend and how to get tickets.

Funny comment there about Carlisle not knowing what 40,000 people look like. And they say Carlisle cudnt sustain a proper venue for music. This radio one weekend blows that out the water.

I know the council run or used to run some kindof music event each year in Bitz Park (sp?), but this is waaaay bigger than that. Good thing they’re offering the tickets to people in the area first as everything normally happens in London.
