With less than 2 days to go, it seems there’s no end to the strange souvenirs that you can buy to remember this Royal Wedding.
Those who were around in 1981 might remember the mugs, plates and generally relatively tacky-free souvenirs which were sold to commemorative the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
For the new Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, there are of course plenty of the same, but also a few oddities.
Royal Wedding Air is apparently one of the oddest. The company behind it claims that expert collectors will follow the route around London collecting bottles of air, so in years to come you can taste London as it was in 2011.
We thought Lake District air was a pretty strange thing to sell, but at least that is likely to be relatively clean and fresh, but why on earth would anyone want to buy London Air…!?
At least the people behind this aren’t taking it too seriously, especially as they previously marketted “Middlesbrough smog air”, imaginary friend for sale and art collection “Watching paint dry”. More details on Royal Wedding Day Air.
Royal couple gnomes might sound a little more normal and so they should coming from one of the countries leading DIY stores. Strangely, these aren’t available on the web site, but you can buy the decorated William and Kate gnomes in stores for around £12 each.
Royal Prophylactic’s are apparently the order of the day, or “royal condoms” for those of us who weren’t educated in ancient Greek. These have been causing quite a stir amongst royal watchers, but most seemed to see the funny side. One thing the royal protection items have going for them is a distinct lack of tacky-ness which will likely make them quite a hit.
Royal traditions: We suspect it is fairly unlikely any Royal Prophylactic’s will appear in the royal wedding gifts, but who knows, the royals have been known to let their hair down in the past.
