Taking them back to the glory and pageantry of the Middle Ages visitors to the Keep, or the Great Tower, at Dover Castle can enjoy a new and delightful experience. The Great Tower is undergoing a major £2 million investment by English Heritage which promise to enhance the visitor experience. It is planned for opening to the public on 1st August 2009. The Great Tower at Dover Castle was a creation by King Henry II and is the most important royal buildings in Britain. English Heritage’s visitor operations director, Tracey Wahdan says ‘Dover Castle has an incredibly long and rich history, having served as a vital strategic centre since Roman times. But it is fair to say that it’s medieval origins are the most fascinating. By transforming the Great Tower’s interiors we are bringing a medieval palace back to life and hope to give visitors a suprising and delightful glimpse of the Middle Ages.”
