Pubs become Tourist Information centres

Filed under Eating & Drinking, Miscellaneous

A new campaign has been launched to turn local English pubs into unofficial tourist information centres.  The new scheme is aimed to boost trade after 1,500 pubs closed down in 2008 due to the economic downtown.  VisitEngland is also launching a new interactive website as part of its Inn England campaign, which will highlight some of the nation’s best pubs.  The head of marketing at VisitEngland comments “Pubs are a key part of England’s brand, our history and way of life.  They are often the cornerstone of a local community and a great way to discover more about a destination, be it the produce on the menu, the history of the people and surroundings, or the great walks and activities in the area.”
