Ever wanted to drive a diesel train?

The traditional aspiration of many boys growing up in the 1950’s was to be a train driver, but back then it was the steam train that captured the heart. Today many of those same “boys” would still like that experience, but what about those who’s passion is for something a little more modern – the diesel train?

It turns out there is at least one place which allows this albeit for a price – the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Derbyshire. They run experience days where you can accompany the driver through all the checks, coupling up and driving the train, or for a bit more it is sometimes possible to actually drive their diesel trains as well.

A couple of options for anyone wanting to drive a steam train are included below:

Avon railway
